ALBANY, N.Y. -- Ever wonder how your hard-earned tax dollars are being spent? Well, now you'll be able to find out thanks to a new website that allows the public unprecedented access to state spending.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli unveiled a new website called Open Book New York.

Its easy-to-use format contains searchable databases of spending by 113 state agencies and more than 60,000 state contracts.

DiNapoli's Open Book New York initiative is just one of many planned reforms that he hopes will open up government for the average New Yorker.

DiNapoli said, "We need to encourage more New Yorkers to get more involved in the process of state government, and the best way to do that is to provide accessible, understandable information. Open Book New York does just that. More information means more involvement, and more involvement means better government."

The public can now identify who is doing business with the state and how much state agencies spend on expenses such as travel, employee salaries and consultants.
