AG takes legal action against CVS, Rite Aid for selling expired products
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced his office is taking legal action against CVS and Rite Aid after the two drug store chains were found to be selling expired products -- including food, medicine and baby formula.
Cuomo said the expired items were found at 142 CVS and 112 Rite Aid Pharmacies in New York -- 20 stores in Western NY; 28 stores in the Rochester region; 21 stores in Central NY; 6 stores in the Capital Region; 23 stores in the Southern Tier; 5 stores in the North Country; and 52 stores in the Hudson Valley.
Many stores sold milk and eggs that had expired, and some sold medications that were more than a year past their expiration dates. Investigators were able to buy more than 600 expired products around the state.
Cuomo said his office is preparing civil lawsuits against the chains.
The AG's office began a statewide, undercover investigation of all major drug store chains in New York State back in March.
